We recommend that everyone take a First Aid class at least every couple of years simply because like so many skills, providing first aid is a perishable skill. Get some training and stay trained. Now what? After you've taken the time to get the training, it is of little or no use if you do not have the supplies on hand to deal with an emergency. In addition to the kits we offer we recommend having the following items on hand; Q-tips, a thermometer, Tylenol and children's Tylenol for fever, swelling, and pain relief; Aspirin is useful for a heart attack, but not for a bleeding trauma; Chlorine bleach for disinfecting equipment and linens; alcohol, hydrogen peroxide and iodine for disinfecting minor abrasions and wounds; Benedryl is useful for some allergic reactions; Caladryl for insect bites and stings; Syrup of Ipecac and activated charcoal for poisoning, but be sure to call poison control FIRST as the wrong treatment complicates the condition; Cough syrup, Pepto Bismol, antacids, Epsom's Salts, Ben-Gay, antibiotic ointments and Silva dine for burns (have extra when you are learning to use your wood burning cook stove). In addition to first aid, we offer other emergency food supplies and survival supplies which can be easily added to a back pack for outdoor preparedness or conveniently kept in your vehicle in case of an accident, breakdown or inclement weather conditions.
